FROM OUR COVENANT MISSIONARY PATRICK BOOTH

Starting A new Isaiah 40:31

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah tells us that the Lord shall renew our strength. It is with great faith and trembling confidence that we trust in His name. As Cambodia celebrated its 100th year of Christianity this past weekend, we reflected on the impact that the gospel has on this corner of Southeast Asia. The Christian church is still young and relatively small in this area. Middle Eastern countries host pilgrimages from the rest of the world to historical sites. Europeans have a history that dates back nearly two millennia. Americans celebrate the doctrine from the founding of the country's origin... Cambodian congregations celebrate one of the first times that the faith is publicly recognized by the ruling government. While we have a long way to go, dramatic shifts have already emerged.

Going the Extra Mile

In the last month, our crew not only completed their applicable contract. They were asked to take a second job based upon its urgency. Our crew impressed the new client with their attention to detail and he asked them to come back the next day fulfilling another job he planned to seek help from elsewhere. This marked a significant accomplishment for our crew. They negotiated their own price, completed the work, and shared meals in an extra day of fellowship with our new customer. Truly, they are making great strides in their professional development, but sharing community most of all.

THANK YOU:

The staff would like to thank everyone for our Christmas gift. It is much appreciated!

SOUPERBOWL SUNDAY:

February 12th we will have our own SuperBowl prediction game where you bring in canned goods and place them in the box for the team you think will win the Superbowl.  Following the 11:00 a.m. worship service there will be a lunch and flag football game on the side yard (where the pumpkin patch was).

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:

Our church maintains an extensive clothes closet which is often made available on Wednesday mornings to clients of our food pantry. The clothes closet is managed by our church sexton, Bonnie Evans. A volunteer is needed who can be available on most Tuesday mornings between 9 and 11 to work with Bonnie to help sort and label the various articles of clothing. If you can help with this, please contact Bonnie or the Church Office.

AFGHAN REFUGEES IN NEED:

Our Afghan refugees will be moving to a different location at the end of this month. Any monetary donations will be greatly appreciated.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO SUPPORT UKRAINE

Our prayers are constant and urgent for the Ukrainian people. Many of you have asked about the ways to help the people of Ukraine and to support our United Methodist witness in Ukraine. Bishop Khegay in Eurasia said that the best way to provide financial support is to contribute through the Global Ministries Advance for Eurasia and designate your gift for Ukrainian Assistance. Following is a link to the Eurasia Advance information: https://advance.umcmission.org/p-191-eurasia-in-mission-together-russia-and-belarus.aspx.  Please put “Ukrainian Assistance” on your check or envelope when you make offerings. We will send the fund to Eurasia Advance. As of June 30, $1575 has been sent to the conference for Ukraine.

FOOD PANTRY REPORT:

We serve on average 155 households per week (440 individuals). We continue to need donations of soft toothbrushes, canned fruit, vegetables and tuna. We also need plastic bags and paper bags with handles. Volunteers are always welcome.

TEDDY BEAR SUNDAY:

Please bring in new or gently used Teddy Bears on Sunday, February 19th and leave them in the pew for the children to collect following the Worship Service. All bears will be handed out to the children who come to our Food Pantry. There should be really good sales following Valentine’s Day on Teddy Bears!

NEW ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL:

Beginning on February 5th following the 9:30 Contemporary Service in the Social Hall everyone is invited for a 2nd Cup of Coffee and a study entitled “Your Congregation as a School of Love” with Brian McLaren.

ADDRESS UPDATES NEEDED:

We are trying to update our contact information to make certain we can get things like the newsletter and giving statements to each of you.  Please take a moment to make sure we have up to date email and snail mail addresses.
