The Eleven O'clock Sunday Worship Service at Ginter Park United Methodist Church is a traditional service, incorporating the beauty and majesty of ancient traditions. This service is welcoming and embraces the caring ministry exemplified in the Wesley tradition. It is held in our Sanctuary designed to provide an ideal worship setting. Built in 1949 the sanctuary is richly ornamented with stain glass and mosaics that reflect the symbols and stories of our Christian faith.
Ginter Park UMC puts its own mark on the contemporary worship with the Side Door Service at 9:30 a.m. Held in the newly renovated Social Hall, Side Door parishioners get their praise on with music from the Side Door Band, vignettes from lay speakers, Children’s Time and messages from our pastor, The Rev. Dr. Dennis Lipke. The Side Door Service shapes itself around prayer, praise and scripture. Each week acknowledges the Holy Spirit's movement in our lives and gives us an opportunity to sing, pray and simply be together with God. It's a relaxed service--No suits, dresses and “Sunday best” required. Come as you are, grab a cup of coffee, sit back and prepare for a dynamic praise service that is sure to lift your spirits, and bring you closer to God!
The Rev. Dr. Dennis Lipke was born in Durban, South Africa, and for over forty years he has served small, medium and large sized Methodist Churches on both sides of the equator. Included in this time were some great missionary opportunities, both full- time and short term. Dale and Dennis Lipke have been married for forty-three years and are partners on this incredible faith journey. With three married children: Charmaine, Caroline and Andrew, and their spouses: Edwin, Joseph and Myriah, they are the proud grandparents of five grandsons, two granddaughters – and one granddaughter on the way!
In 1987, God opened the way for them to come to the United States and in 1993, they became citizens of their beloved, adopted homeland. The Rev. Dr. Lipke served here at Ginter Park UMC as pastor from 1992 – 1997. He was our twenty-first pastor. Dennis retired from the Virginia Conference at the end of June, 2012. He never imagined that the unique opportunity would arise whereby he might return to Ginter Park UMC and minister among his friends again. He thanks you for this privilege!
